<p>Praia dos Alemães  is a blue flag beach located west of Albufeira old town and is flanked either side by Praia dos Aveiros to the west and to the east by Praia do Inatel.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>This wide beach is about 500 meters in length and has fine gold sand and is backed by sandy golden low cliffs prone to some erosion during wet weather some of which can be hazardous with rock falls. To the rear of the beach there are several large holiday apartment and hotel complexes along with numerous holiday and residential villas. These developments are dissected by small lanes and paths giving access to the beach with the main access lane being Rua Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro in the Forte de São João neighbourhood of Albufeira.</p><br>
<h2>Facilities</h2><br>
<p>There is also a raised board walk running both east and west from the beach access point by the Hotel Monica Isabel Beach Club. There are several licensed bar, restaurant concessions along the beach. there are toilet and shower facilities and there are opportunities to hire parasols and sun loungers. During the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards.</p><br>
<p>The Japanese 20mm Cannon Blockhouse is one of many relics of World War II on the island of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. It is a concrete blockhouse, semi-circular in shape with a diameter of about 6 m. Its walls are 1.22 m thick with four firing ports large enough to accommodate 20mm cannons, originally equipped with steel sliding shutters. A steel door 25 mm thick provides access to the structure at the rear, sheltered by a concrete wall and covered defensively by a machine gun port. The blockhouse is located near the center of what is locally called Big Agingan Beach , on the south coast of the island, about 20 m from the shore. It was built in some haste by the Japanese forces defending Saipan in 1944, and was captured by Allied forces early in the Battle of Saipan.</p><br>
<p>The blockhouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.</p><br>
<p>The Fortunat O. Michaud is a historic house at 231 Main Street in Van Buren, Maine. Built in the 1910s by a local politician, it is the small community&#39;s most elaborate expression of Queen Anne architecture. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Michaud House is set at the southwest corner of Poplar and Main Streets (the latter is United States Route 1)., occupying a prominent elevated site just north of Van Buren&#39;s central business district. It has a two-story main block with a hip roof and a three-story round tower projecting from the northeast corner, and a broad porch that wraps around the front and north side. The tower is shingled on the third level (the rest of the house is finished in clapboards) and is capped by a domed roof. The single story porch is supported by Tuscan columns, and echoes the circular form of the tower as it wraps around it. On the north side, a gabled projection has a window set in a deeply-recessed lancet-arched opening. A gable-roofed ell extends to the rear from the main block. The interior of the house retains much original woodwork and styling.</p><br>
<p>The house was built sometime between 1912 and 1917 by Fortunat O. Michaud, a former state legislator. The property was recorded as having a narrow house on it in 1911, which the rear ell may be all of part of; there is architectural evidence in the attic space supporting this idea. The house was sold out of the family by Michaud&#39;s daughter.</p><br>
<p>The Stonington Opera House is a theatrical venue at the corner of Main and School Streets in the center of Stonington, Maine. Built in 1912, it is one of a small number of early 20th-century performance halls in the state. It is home to Opera House Arts, a non-profit dedicated to preserving the building, which stages theatrical productions and screens films. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Stonington Opera House is set in the towns central business district, on a rock outcrop across Main Street from the main pier. The building has two sections, the more prominent one being the tall southern portion, on which a large sign proclaims the building&#39;s name. This section is framed in wood, finished in clapboards, and is topped by a hip roof. It houses the stage area, including wings and dressing rooms. To the north is a lower gable-roofed ell, which houses the seating area and lobby. The main entrance is located at the north end of the building, while there is a secondary entrance on the east side of the tall south block. Distinctive interior features include a surviving 1910s projection booth, which is lined with asbestos tile and designed to be isolatable in the event that unstable nitrate-based film stock (used in early-generation films) caught fire.</p><br>
<p>The theater was built in 1912, on the site of an earlier hall which was destroyed by fire in 1910. It continued the practice of the earlier facility, hosting theatrical productions, lectures, and community events. Its floor was covered with removable folding chairs, so that the space could be used for dances and other social events. Its diverse uses included town meetings, basketball games, and roller skating. It was fitted for screening films around 1918, which came to dominate its uses in the mid-20th century. Unlike other early theaters, which were generally incorporated into municipal buildings, this one was specifically built as a profit-making venture, and was designed to accommodate elaborate theatrical productions, and is probably the oldest of this type in the state.</p><br>
<p>After a period of decline, the building was rehabilitated in 1979, but closed again in the late 1980s. It was again updated and reopened by Opera House Arts, a local nonprofit, in 2000, and is once again used primarily for film screenings and theatrical productions.</p><br>
<p>The Bass Maltings in Sleaford, England are a large group of eight disused malt houses originally owned by the Bass Brewery of Burton upon Trent. Constructed between 1901 and 1907 to Herbert A. Couchman&#39;s design, the maltings are the largest group of malt houses in England; they have been designated Grade II* on the National Heritage List for England, recognising them as "particularly important... of more than special interest."</p><br>
<p>Part of the predominantly agricultural county of Lincolnshire, the Sleaford area was a major producer of barley in the 1880s. When germinated and dried to form malt, barley forms a key ingredient in the production of beer. Along with the towns railway links, this attracted the Bass brewery company to the town. The use of more efficient techniques at Basss other plant led to the closure of Sleaford&#39;s maltings in 1959. Despite being used to rear poultry in the late 20th century, the buildings have not been fully occupied since Bass left and a fire in 1976 caused severe damage to three of the malthouses. Derelict since the 1990s, proposals to convert the buildings into office, retail and residential space were put on hold in early 2015 after lengthy delays over planning permission and the withdrawal of a major investor.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<h3>Industry and vacancy</h3><br>
<p>In the late-19th century, the Sleaford area was a major barley producer and by the 1880s, Sleaford was a stop on railway lines connecting the town to Boston, Grantham, Bourne, Spalding and Lincoln. These qualities made the town desirable for the production of malt, a crucial ingredient in beer production. The brewers Bass, Ratcliffe and Gretton Ltd were attracted to the town and in 1880 proposed a new malting complex there, which would consolidate malting closer to the barley source and reduce costs by up-scaling production. Drilling in 1892 revealed suitable artesian water sources under Sleaford; plans were submitted nine years later and over 13 acres of land off Mareham Lane was purchased; work started in 1901 and was complete by 1907.</p><br>
<p>The company ran the complex at full capacity until after the Second World War; however, in the 1950s, Bass installed new and more efficient pneumatic malting systems at their original Burton-on-Trent plant, making the Sleaford complex redundant and paving the way for its closure in 1959.</p><br>
<h3>Regeneration</h3><br>
<p>A regeneration scheme was announced in 2004; supported by the Phoenix Trust, the maltings would be converted into residential, retail and business space. Public consultation took place in 2005 and 2006, with around 90% of participants supporting regeneration and three-quarters asking for a cinema and entertainment complex. Lincolnshire Enterprise granted £200,000 towards the regeneration scheme and the Gladedale Group came forward to develop the project. Over the next three years, they worked with the Princes Regeneration Trust to draw up plans for the sites regeneration which protected the historic exterior. The maltings would be converted into retail and office space, alongside 220 apartments.</p><br>
<p>However, in 2012, Sleaford Town Council refused to grant permission for a link road connecting Boston Road to the site because of "concerns about closing a level crossing and the loss of trees" at the Boston Road Recreation Ground. After a lengthy stalemate, the District Council served a compulsory purchase order on the site in 2014, but Tesco announced early the following year that it would no longer be investing in the maltings complex following a series of financial setbacks to the company. Although Gladedale (by then known as Avant Homes) announced its commitment to converting parts of the site to residential use, the leader of North Kesteven District Council, Marion Brighton, stated that the plans were "effectively on hold" following the withdrawal of Tesco.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>With a frontage of nearly 1,000 ft and a total area of 50,000 sq ft, the maltings complex is believed to be largest of its type in England; the architectural historians Sir Nikolaus Pevsner and John Harris commented that "for sheer impressiveness little in English industrial architecture can equal the scale of this building. In 1974, it was recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building in recognition of its importance as an example of a large-scale industrial malting complex in which "considerations of form, massing, symmetry and scale have produced a design of high aesthetic quality combined with clear functional expression&quot it also represents the importance of the English brewing industry in the late-19th and early 20th centuries and large-scale malting at its peak. Owing to its derelict state, the building was also placed on English Heritage&#39;s "at risk" register in 2011.</p><br>
<p>There are five workers cottages along the path from Mareham Lane to the industrial site; each are Grade II listed. The complexs offices, storage depot, weigh offices, cartsheds, gateways, walls and mess rooms are also listed at the same grade.</p><br>
<p>Inch Island ) is an island in Lough Swilly, County Donegal, Ireland.</p><br>

<p>The island is around 5 square miles (13 square kilometres) in area. It lies off the Donegal coast near Burt and the start of the Inishowen peninsula; Inch island is connected to the mainland by a causeway road. The island&#39;s highest hill is at 222 m.</p><br>

<p>A 15th century castle stands on a cliff overlooking Lough Swilly. The island&#39;s Presbyterian Church is one of the smallest of the surrounding area (just some 14 families member of it); its catholic church, entitled to Our Lady of Lourdes, was built in 1932.</p><br>

<p>Inch island is a well known birdwatching site with a relevant population of migratory and wintering birds. Bird species on the island include Greenland white fronted goose, whooper swan and greylag goose.</p><br>
<p>The Wanda Gág House is a historic house museum at 226 North Washington Street in New Ulm, Minnesota. The museum commemorates the life and legacy of author and artist Wanda Gág , whose childhood home this was. Built in 1898, it is a fine example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Gág House stands in an residential area just southwest of downtown New Ulm, at the junction of North Washington Street and 3rd Street North. It is a 2-1/2 story wood frame building, with a complex roofline and exterior finished in a combination of wooden clapboards and shingles. Its front facade has a projecting gable section on the right, with a broad polygonal bay one story in height topped by a single sash window. The bay windows are interspersed with wooden panels, and a field of diamond-cut shingles is set below the upper window. To the left of the projecting section is a porch elaborately decorated with turned posts and balusters, and a spindled valance overhead.</p><br>
<p>The house was built in 1894 by Anton Gag, and served from the until 1913 as the childhood home of Wanda Gág (who adopted the accented "a" as an adult). Gág was a successful artist and illustrator, and is credited with producing one of the first picture books in 1926. The house was acquired by a non-profit organization in 1988. It was restored, and opened as a museum dedicated to Gág in 2008.</p><br>
<p>Peričnik Falls  is a waterfall in Triglav National Park, Slovenia.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Peričnik Falls is one of the best-known waterfalls in Slovenia. It flows from a hanging valley in Triglav National Park into the glacial Vrata Valley, where the water of Peričnik Creek then flows into Bistrica Creek. There are actually two waterfalls: Upper Peričnik Falls (Zgornji Peričnik, 16 m high) and Lower Peričnik Falls (Spodnji Peričnik, 52 m high). The larger, lower waterfall is usually simply known as Peričnik Falls. A view of both falls is possible by crossing Bistrica Creek and ascending the scree slope a few dozen meters.</p><br>
<h2>Name</h2><br>
<p>The name Peričnik (in the local dialect also Perečnik) is ultimately derived from the verb prati, which originally meant to strike, beat. It also refers to water falling over a steep cliff, and in standard Slovene has also developed into the sense to wash clothing (via the sense to beat laundry).</p><br>
<p>The former Surry Town Hall is located at 1217 Surry Road  in the village of Surry, Maine. Built in East Surry in 1848, it served as town hall until 1844, and as a combined church and town hall until about 1881. It was then returned to exclusive municipal use until 1978; it is now home to the Surry Historical Society. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The town&#39;s municipal offices are located in a modern facility on North Bend Road; town meetings are now held in the local school auditorium.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The former Surry Town Hall is set at the northwest corner of Surry Road and Meadow Lane, in the rural village of Surry. It is a single-story rectangular wood-frame structure, with a tower projecting from the front facade. It has a front-gable roof, clapboard siding, and a granite foundation. The front facade has no windows, and the entrance is at the base of the tower, topped by a transom window and framed by simple molded trim. The tower is without adornment until it rises above the ridge line of the main block, at which point a roof line separates the tower base from the square belfry. The belfry is more highly decorated, with wide corner pilasters and a simple entablature framing rectangular louvered openings. A small steeple rises above the belfry. A small shed-roof addition extends to the north (rear) of the building. The interior consists of a small vestibule in the tower, a large open space with a barrel roof, and a storage space in the rear addition.</p><br>
<p>The town hall was built by the town in 1828 in what is now East Surry to house municipal meetings and voting facilities. At the time it was near the geographic center of the town, but after much of eastern Surry was transferred to neighboring Ellsworth in 1829, it was at the far eastern edge of the town. In 1844 the town sold the building to the Surry Union Meeting Society, reserving the right to use the building for town meetings. The society moved the building to its present location, and added the tower and other Greek Revival features. The building was then used by the town as well as local congregations of Methodists and Baptists. The Baptists built their own church in 1866, and the Methodists soon followed; by 1881 the building was recorded on maps as the "town house" again. The building continued to be used by the town for meetings and voting until 1978, and was leased to the Surry Historical Society in 1980.</p><br>
<p>The Mulberry Home Economics Building is a historic school building in Mulberry, Arkansas. It is a single-story stone and masonry structure, located off West 5th Street behind the current Mulberry High School building. It has a rectangular plan, with a gable-on-hip roof and a projecting gable-roof entry pavilion on the north side near the western end. The pavilion exhibits modest Craftsman styling, with exposed rafters in the roof and arched openings. The south facade has a secondary entrance near the eastern end, and four irregularly sized and spaced window bays to its west. The building was erected in 1939 with funding assistance from the National Youth Administration.</p><br>
<p>The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.</p><br>
<p>Praia do Inatel is a Blue flag beach located in the resort town of Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal. The beach lies to the east of Albufeira old town in the district of Bairro dos Pescadores ,</p><br>
<p>and is dominated by the Albufeira Inatel Hotel which sit to the rear of the beach and from which the beach takes its name.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The beach is approximately 800 meters in length and is 450 meters wide at low tide. The western boundary of the beach is situated at a concrete pier which covers the outflow of the Ribeira de Albufeira (Albufeira River). At the eastern boundary the beach merges with the neighbouring beach of Praia dos Alemães. The beach is in easy walking distance of the many Hotels and holiday accommodation located in the eastern suburbs of the old town. There is no dedicated parking for the beach although spaces can be found in the Avenida Infante Dom Henrique which runs adjacent to the rear of the beach. There are two licensed bar, restaurant concessions along the beach. there are toilet and shower facilities and there are opportunities to hire parasols and sun loungers. During the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards. There is also a raised board walk running in front of the Inatel hotel and a small section in front of the western beach concession.</p><br>
<p>Topside is a historic summer estate in Brooksville, Maine. Designed by Tennessee architect William Crutchfield and built in 1918, this unusual log structure more closely resembles vacation houses found in the mountain areas of the southern United States than it those found in Maine. It is located on the north shore of Walker Pond, off Maine State Route 176. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Topside is located in eastern Brookfield on a property running from State Route 1976 down to the shore of Walker Pond, a large body of water on the border with Sedgwick. The main house, one of three buildings on the property, is situated close to the shore. It is a 1-1/2 story log structure, set on a fieldstone foundation, with a clipped gable roof shingled in asphalt but shaped to resemble typical thatch roofs. Matching clipped-gable projections are set at the corners of the waterfront side, and a pair of shed-roof dormers appear on the land side. Windows are diamond-pane casement throughout. The logs the house is built out of are unusually large spruce logs that were hand-hewn to fit. The wrought iron hardware fixtures were hand-forged by a blacksmith working on site. and</p><br>
<p>The main house is joined by a stone passageway to two other buildings, both built with similar materials. One is a single-story guest house with three bedrooms, and the other is a three-story structure that houses a water tower and more guest quarters.</p><br>
<p>The property was developed in 1918 for the Patten family to a rough plan developed by Tennessee architect William Crutchfield. Construction was done by a Maine crew without the architect&#39;s oversight, and cost about $60,000.</p><br>
<p>The Willis Noll House is a historic house at 531 North Sequoyah Drive in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Located on a steeply-sloping lot, it presents a single-story to the front and two to the rear. Its foundation, chimney, and part of its walls are red brick, while the rest is finished in vertical siding. The house is a long narrow rectangle capped by a shallow-pitch gable-on-hip roof. Built in 1950, it is one of five houses in Arkansas designed by native son Edward Durell Stone and the only one in his home town. The house shows the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright on Stone&#39;s work, with the open floor plan, expansive windows, and the use of natural materials.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.</p><br>

<p>The Sierra Vieja is a small mountain range in the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas, 42 miles northwest of the city of Marfa in far western Jeff Davis County and northwestern Presidio County. The range extends 16 miles south, from just east of the Van Horn Mountains. Locally known as the Candelaria Rim Rock, the Sierra Vieja comprise the southernmost tip of the Southern Rocky Mountains in North America. Sierra Vieja is Spanish for "old mountains."</p><br>
<p>Capote Peak is the most prominent in the range and is located fourteen miles northwest of Farm Road 2810. It has an elevation of 6,212 feet above sea level, with its summit rising 1,882 feet above nearby Capote Creek. The peak stands at the southeastern edge of the range. Capote means "cloak" or "cape" referring to the fog and mist that occasionally surrounds the peak. Local folklore recounts that the name may be related to the Lipan Apache Chief Capote, who lived in the region around 1850.</p><br>
<h2>Cultural History</h2><br>
<p>Archaeological evidence indicates a long history of human presence in the Sierra Vieja. When Cabeza de Vaca, the first European to explore the Big Bend in 1535, traveled up the Rio Grande, the explorer encountered a large Native American population. The extensive number of Indian sites along Walker Creek and Capote Creek are also evidence of human occupation for thousands of years. In later years, the Apache resided in the Sierra Vieja. The Native American presence in the area hindered cattle ranching until the final years of the nineteenth century. The Sierra Vieja rim has long served as an unofficial boundary, with Spanish language and culture prevailing west of the range on both sides of the Rio Grande. The range largely remains within the boundaries of several large ranches.</p><br>
<h2>Geology and Vegetation</h2><br>
<p>Large-scale silicic volcanism began in the Sierra Vieja about 39 million years ago and continued until about 35 million years ago, with the range being composed of a sequence of tertiary flow and pyroclastic rocks. The shallow, stony soils in the Sierra Vieja support live oak, piñon pine, juniper, conifer, cacti, and grasses. The plant has fern-like, delicate foliage and canary yellow flowers. It grows to three and a half feet tall and is endemic to a single site: Capote Falls in the Sierra Vieja. The waterfall is located on private property.</p><br>
<p>Lomekwi 3 is the name of an archaeological site in Kenya where ancient stone tools have been discovered dating to 3.3 million years ago, which make them the oldest ever found.</p><br>
<h2>Lomekwi 3</h2><br>
<p>In July 2011, a team of archeologists led by Sonia Harmand and Jason Lewis of Stony Brook University, United States, was heading to a site near Kenya&#39;s Lake Turkana near where Kenyanthropus platyops fossils had previously been found. and published the full announcement and results on the cover of Nature on May 21, 2015.</p><br>
<h3>Artifacts</h3><br>
<p>Around 20 well preserved artifacts have been dug up at Lomekwi 3 including anvils, cores, and flakes. An additional 130 artifacts were found on the surface. In one instance, Harmand&#39;s team was able to match a flake to its core, suggesting a hominin had made and discarded the tool at the site. The tools were generally quite large – larger than the oldest known stone tools, recovered near Gona, in the Afar Region of Ethiopia, in 1992. According to Harmand, it appeared that the tool makers had purposely selected large, heavy blocks of strong stone, ignoring smaller blocks of the same material found in the area. She ruled out the possibility that the tools were actually natural rock formations, saying "The artifacts were clearly knapped and not the result of accidental fracture of rocks". Analysis suggested the cores had been rotated as flakes were struck off. The purpose of the tools found at Lomekwi 3 is unclear, as animal bones found at the site do not bear any sign of hominin activity.</p><br>
<p>Based on the buried artifacts&#39; stratigraphic position (in undisturbed sediment) relative to two layers of volcanic ash and known magnetic reversals, Harmand and her team dated the tools to 3.3 million years ago. The finds at Lomekwi therefore represent the oldest stone tools ever discovered, predating the Gona tools by 700,000 years. The date also predates the Homo genus by 500,000 years, suggesting tool making arose with Australopithecus or Kenyanthropus (which was found near Lomekwi 3).</p><br>
<p>Harmand said the Lomekwi 3 artifacts do not fit into the Oldowan tool making tradition and should be considered part of a distinct tradition, which she termed Lomekwian. It has been hypothesized that tool making may have aided in the evolution of Homo into a distinct genus. However, it is unclear whether the Lomekwian tools are related to those made by Homo species – it is possible the technology was forgotten and later rediscovered.</p><br>
<p>Independent researchers who have seen the tools are generally supportive of Harmands conclusions. Paleoanthropologist Zeresenay Alemseged, who was responsible for the earlier research suggesting Australopithecus had made tools, also backed Harmands conclusions.</p><br>
<p>Mount Yamato Katsuragi or simply Mount Katsuragi is a mountain in the Kongō Range straddling the prefectural border between Chihayaakasaka, Osaka and Gose, Nara in Japan. The peak elevation is 959.2 m. The mountain is located along the Gose Line of the Kintetsu Railway.</p><br>
<p>The base of the mountain has many different Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. The mountain is accessible via the Katsuragisan Ropeway on the east side, as well as several different hiking trails on all sides of varying difficulty and length. The summit has a local government-run lodge and campground for those who want to spend the night or rest after ascending Mount Yamato Katsuragi.</p><br>
<p>Other names for the mountain include Mount Kaina, Mount Kamo, Mount Tenshin, and Shinoga Peak.</p><br>
<h2>Location and naming</h2><br>
<p>Mount Yamato Katsuragi is located within Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park, with a peak elevation of 959.2 m. Mount Nijō is about 8.6 km to the north, and Mount Kongō is about 5.6 km to the south-southwest. It is part of the Kongō Range. Mount Yamato Katsuragi has gently sloping sides which rise from the neighboring Katsuragi Plateau. The mountain was produced by orogenic folding, and is composed of schistose granite overlaid with a shallow layer of sandy and gravelly alluvial soil.</p><br>
<p>The Kongō Range was formerly known as the Katsuragi Range before being renamed to its current title. Mount Yamato Katsuragi has a number of different historical names: Mount Kaina, Mount Tenshin, and Mount Kamo were all used in ancient Yamato Province. It was known as Shinoga Peak in ancient Kawachi Province.</p><br>
<h2>Access and amenities</h2><br>
<p>On the east side of the mountain, the Katsuragisan Ropeway is an aerial tramway which transports visitors between Tozanguchi Station at the base of the mountain and Katsuragi Sanjō Station near the top of Mount Yamato Katsuragi. The ropeway is operated by Kintetsu Railway. A one-way trip lasts about 5 minutes and covers 1.4 km.</p><br>
<p>Tozanguchi Station is accessed by taking a bus from stop three in front of Kintetsu Gose Station (which is directly across the street from JR&#39;s Gose Station). The ride to Tozanguchi Station is between 15–20 minutes.</p><br>
<p>A number of hiking trails are accessible from all sides of Mount Yamato Katsuragi. The Kujira Waterfall Trail weaves under the ropeway as it goes up the mountain, taking about 70–80 minutes for the ascent. The Kitaone Trail follows a northwest path before curving back toward the southwest. It takes about 2 hours to ascend the mountain via this trail. The hike passes fields of rhododendrons as well as wood of Japanese beech trees near the end of the trail.</p><br>
<p>Starting your hike at Mount Yashiki Park in nearby Katsuragi, the trail goes west for about 3 km before meeting up with the main Diamond Trail, where you turn south for another 4 km. This trail takes around 3.5 hours to hike. There are the same fields of rhododendrons about 30 minutes from the summit along this trail.</p><br>
<p>On the Osaka side of the mountain, there are four different trails to choose from. One starts at the Kano bus stop near Shiraki Elementary School in Kanan, which takes about 4 hours to hike. Hiking the trail starting at the Kauchi bus stop near Kauchi Elementary takes about just over 3 hours. Starting on the south at the entrance to the Mizukoshi Tunnel (on Route 309) gives you two different trails (one going east and the other going west), and the hiking time is about the same for each route. The east route will take you by Tsutsujien, a park full of rhododendrons just south of the lodge.</p><br>
<p>Katsuragi Kogen Lodge, operated by the local government, offers overnight lodging and food for up to 70 people in 17 different rooms. The lodge includes a gift shop carrying local specialty foods, and has traditional ofuro bathing. It is located about 300 m south of the summit along the hiking trail. The lodge also operates a campground just to the northeast of the summit along the north trail.</p><br>
<h2>Environs</h2><br>
<p>The city of Katsuragi maintains two city parks near the base of the mountain. Katsuragi Sanroku Park is just northeast of the base of the mountain. Mount Yashiki Park is 1.2 km northeast of Katsuragi Sanroku Park. Both parks offer good views of Mount Yamato Katsuragi as well as other mountains in the area.</p><br>

<p>Hann Range is a mountain range in central Australia located approximately 120 km north of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.</p><br>
<p>The range stretches east to west for a distance of approximately 40 km, it is surrounded by the Burt Plain. The highest point of the Hann Range is Mount Evatt with an elevation of 802 m. The Stuart Highway bisects the range not far from Mount Evatt.</p><br>
<p>The range is situated in the Ngalia Basin at the south and eastern end. The area is composed of a well defined ridge of silicified brown sandstone overlaying the basement rock. The ridge is made up of outcropping Vaughan Springs Quartzite of a similar age and lithology to the Heavitree Quartzite that overlook Alice Springs. Th metamorphic basement is composed of Mount Bleechmore Granulite.</p><br>
<p>The traditional owners of the area are the Arrente who know the area as Arwerlt Atwaty.</p><br>
<p>The Native Gap Conservation Reserve is part of the Range, the gap is a sacred site to the Arrente and Anmatyerr peoples. The area is at the junction of many creation stories, and the name of the site in the Arrente dialect is Arurlte Artwatye, where Arurlte means the top of the shoulders across the neck and Artwatye means gap.</p><br>
<p>The Range is thought to have been named by John Ross while surveying a route for the Overland Telegraph in 1870 after the explorers and pastoralists Frank and William Hann.</p><br>
<p>Sorapiss, also referred to as Sorapis or Punta Sorapiss, is a mountain in the Dolomites within the Veneto region of northern Italy. Situated in the comune of Cortina d&#39;Ampezzo, it has an elevation of 3,205 m. In its vicinity is a mountain pass of the same name, as well as Lago di Sorapiss , at the foot of the mountain.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Sorapiss, with its huge perpendicular faces, forms part of the mountainous backdrop to the resort town of Cortina, situated roughly 9 km to the southeast of the town. The limestone dolomite formations, which are irregular, rugged and sharp-edged peaks, are part of the Eastern Alps. The Cristallo group lies to the north past the Passo Tre Croci, and its southern neighbour is the Antelao. A path to Sorapiss starts at Passo Tre Croci and continues along an easy slope, reaching the refuge at the base of the Sorapiss range, close to Lago di Sorapiss, which is at an elevation of 1,923 m.</p><br>
<p>The elevation of Sorapiss is 3,205 m. The mountain has three ridges: a central ridge, a southern ridge, which is the part of the mountain that can be seen from Cortina, and, beyond a high pass and little to the west, a northern ridge that culminates in the skiing area of Mount Faloria. There are three glaciers on the mountain&#39;s slopes, although these have been melting considerably in recent years. Lago Sorapiss, at the foot of the mountain, is a glacial lake at an elevation 1,925 m.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>There are three refuges in the vicinity: Rifugio Tondi di Faloria at 2,327 m, Rifugio Alfonso Vandelli at 1,926 m and Rifugio San Marco. Rifugio Alfonso Vandelli was built by Austrians in 1891 on the banks of Lago di Sorapiss. In 1895 it was destroyed by an avalanche, but was rebuilt the following year in a more sheltered spot. At the end of World War I in 1918, Cortina d&#39;Ampezzo became part of the Kingdom of Italy (1918) and the refuge became the property of the CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) of Venice. In 1924, thanks to a donation by Cesare Luigi Luzzati, a new refuge was built. A fire destroyed it completely in 1959, and it was again reconstructed; the current shelter was opened on 18 September 1966 and was named after the president of the CAI of Venice, Alfonso Vandelli.</p><br>
<p>Paul Grohmann made the first ascent of the mountain in September 1864, taking 8 hours and 30 minutes. There are at least two routes to the summit: the Grohmann-Weg, which crosses the mountain&#39;s west flank, joining the S. Vito route near the summit, and the Muller-Weg, which traverses the east glacier and ascends direct over the precipices on the northeast side.</p><br>
<h2>Flora</h2><br>
<p>The flora on Sorapiss includes Festucetum pulchellae (slopes), Euphrasio-Globularietum (base), and Drabetum hoppeanae (on the range).</p><br>
<h2>Legend</h2><br>
<p>There is a legend associated with the name of Sorapiss, which in local dialect means "above the waterfall". A "peace-loving" king named Sorapiss turned himself into a rocky mountain during a course of unexpected events. A witch had bewitched the king&#39;s impulsive daughter Misurina by promising her a magical mirror as a reward for providing shade to her house. This was honoured by her doting father, who turned himself into a mountain. At a later date, Misurina, demonstrating a sense of gratitude towards her father, cried and shed tears which formed the Lago di Sorapiss at the foot of the large cliff of Sorapiss, the immobilized form of her father.</p><br>
<p>The Turrets is a historic summer estate house on Eden Street in Bar Harbor, Maine. Designed by New York City architect Bruce Price and built in 1895, the French Chateau-style building was one of the most elaborate built in Bar Harbor during its heyday as a summer resort. It is now part of the campus of the College of the Atlantic, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Turrets is located on the shore of Frenchman Bay on the campus of the College of the Atlantic, northwest of Bar Harbor&#39;s central business district. It is a large three-to-four story granite building, with a complex roof line that includes many projections, turrets, and dormers. The front facade faces west, away from the water, and is roughly divided into five sections. The central section, four stories in height, has a porte-cochere in front, supported by Ionic columns, with a heavy turned balustrade. The second floor has a group of three windows, topped by arched panels with fleur-de-lis, and the third also has three windows, divided by Ionic columns. The fourth floor is a mansard-style roof with a dormer. To the left of the central section are a three-story wing and a two-story kitchen wing, between which stands a secondary entrance that has a masonry portico topped by a turret. To the right of the central section stands a three-story round tower with a conical cap, beyond which is a three-story wing with a rounded corner. The interior of the house includes a grand staircase and a paneled dining room.</p><br>
<p>John J. Emery, a wealthy Cincinnati businessman, commissioned the construction of The Turrets, which was completed in 1895. It joined a number of elegant summer houses that lined Bar Harbor&#39;s coast, many of which were destroyed in a devastating fire in 1947. The Turrets stood vacant for many years before its acquisition by the College of the Atlantic in the 1970s.</p><br>
<p>Mount Izumi Katsuragi is a mountain in the Kongō Range straddling the border between Osaka and Wakayama Prefectures in Japan. Its peak elevation is 858 m.</p><br>

<p>Mount Izumi Katsuragi is an 858 m mountain located on the Kongō Range, straddling the prefectural boundary between Osaka and Wakayama in Japan. Parts of the mountain lie in Kishiwada and Kaizuka, Osaka, as well as in Kinokawa, Wakayama.</p><br>
<p>The Izumiyama Chain and the Kongō Range form a 120 km long L-shaped range called the Kongō - Izumi Katsuragi Mountain Range, extending along the border between Osaka, Nara, and Wakayama, including Mount Yamato Katsuragi. Mount Izumi Katsuragi has been known as the heart of the Katsuragi Mountains since ancient times.</p><br>
<h3>Environs</h3><br>
<p>The north slope of Mount Izumi Katsuragi is covered in a wood of Japanese beech, which favor growing at elevations high enough to remain fairly cool. Harvesting the trees in this wood is forbidden by the association of Hachidairyūō shrines and temples, and this is the southernmost stand of Japanese beech on Honshū.</p><br>
<h2>Access and amenities</h2><br>
<p>Mount Izumi Katsuragi is easily accessible by car from three different directions, with all three roads meeting near the summit. There is also a Nankai Wing Bus which travels between the bus stop at Kishiwada Station and the Ushitakiyama (牛滝山) bus stop near the base of the mountain. From there, it takes about 60 minutes to hike to the summit.</p><br>
<p>There are no lodging, toilet, or food services at the summit.</p><br>
<p>Bogatha Waterfall is a waterfall located in Koyaveerapuram G, Wazeedu Mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Telangana. It is located 120 Km from Bhadrachalam, 140km away from Warangal and 329Km from Hyderabad. The newly constructed Eturnagaram bridge on NH 202 reduced the travelling distance to 329km from 440km.</p><br>
<p>Of the waterfalls in Khammam District, Telangana state, it is the second largest waterfall in the Telangana region.</p><br>
<p>Even though water flows throughout the year, a good time to visit is between June and November (after the monsoon), when the most water flows. There is no road facility, so visitors have to trek for some distance to reach the waterfall.</p><br>
<p>Large numbers of tourists visit the waterfall on weekends.</p><br>
<p>Bogatha is nicknamed "the Telangana Niagara" or "telangana nayagara jalapatham".</p><br>
<p>Tartu Ülikool 350  is a mountain peak in Central Pamir. It was first reached in 1982 to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the founding of the University of Tartu. It is located in the Tanimas mountain range in Tajikistan. At the time of first ascent it was considered to be the highest unreached peak in the territory of the former Soviet Union.</p><br>
<p>The summit has been reached twice, on 3 August 1982 (group Kalev Muru, Kalle Hansen, Anu Kallavus, Andres Paris, Jaan Künnap and Kalle Aedviir), and on 31 July 2012 (group Andres Hiiemäe, Erik Jaaniso, Marko Aasa, Priit Rooden, Merili Simmer, Kristjan-Erik Suurväli, Tõnu Põld, Priit Simson, Priit Joosu, Sven Oja).</p><br>
<p>It was first thought to rise to 6,350 meters, hence its suitability to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the university, but according to the GPS-measurements made on the second ascent in 2012 the peak was actually found to be 6,258 m high.</p><br>
<p>At the time of the first conquest it was one out of five peaks in Soviet Union that was named after a university and the highest of them.</p><br>
<p>The peak is located at two weeks distance from the nearest inhabited area. Near to it there is also a 6,277-meter high Mt. J.F. Parrot that is named after Friedrich Parrot, who was a physics professor and a rector at the University of Tartu and who is considered the pioneer of scientific mountaineering.</p><br>
<p>Among the things left on the top of the peak there are a plaque, a traditional university cap and the university flag.</p><br>

<p>The Murry Guggenheim House, also known as the Guggenheim Library, is a historic building located at Cedar and Norwood Avenues in West Long Branch, New Jersey.</p><br>
<p>This Beaux-Arts mansion, designed by Carrère and Hastings in 1903 as a summer residence, is now the Monmouth University library.</p><br>
<p>It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 28, 1978.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In 1903, Murry Guggenheim (1858–1939), son of Meyer Guggenheim, bought property in West Long Branch to build a summer residence for himself and his wife, Leonie. The Beaux-Arts architecture firm of Carrère and Hastings was hired to design the building. The firm had achieved prominence with the design for the New York Public Library in 1897. The mansion was started in 1903 and completed in 1905. An addition was built in 1967 on the north side that doubled the available space for the library. In 2003, the library underwent a second expansion, for $14 million, which increased its capacity by 100,000 books.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The building is a two story Beaux-Arts style mansion with curved side wings and Palladian arcades. The exterior is covered with white stucco. The interior features a grand corridor with Ionic columns.</p><br>
<p>The design by Carrère and Hastings was honored with a Gold Medal by the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1903. It was styled after the Grand Trianon in Versailles.</p><br>
<h2>Legacy</h2><br>
<p>After the deaths of Murry and Leonie, the property transferred to the Murry and Leonie Guggenheim Foundation in 1959. The Foundation then transferred it to Monmouth College, now Monmouth University, in September 1960. After a year of modifications to convert the building into a college library, it was dedicated as the Murry and Leonie Guggenheim Memorial Library on September 24, 1961.</p><br>
<p>The estate also included a nearby stable and carriage house at Cedar Avenue, which was donated to the college in 1961. It is now the Lauren K. Woods Theater.</p><br>
<p>The Price Produce and Service Station is a collection of three related commercial buildings at 413, 415, and 417 East Emma Avenue in Springdale, Arkansas. It includes one building that hosted an automotive filling station and produce shop, a second that traditionally housed a barbershop, and a third structure, originally open but now enclosed and housing a residence, that was used as an automobile service area. The buildings were all built in 1934, and are united by common Art Deco styling, most prominently lancet-topped pilasters that rise above the height of their roofs. The complex is regarded as a fine local example of vernacular Art Deco, and as a surviving element of the automotive culture of the 1930s.</p><br>
<p>The buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.</p><br>
<p>Mount Naka Katsuragi is a mountain in the Kongō Range to the south of Mount Kongō, rising to an elevation of 937.7 m. The mountain is situated between Chihayaakasaka, Osaka and Gojō, Nara in Japan. It is known for its trails being generally easy for most hikers, and for its stands of Japanese cedar and large fields of bamboo grass.</p><br>
<p>Despite being just off the popular Diamond Trail, most hikers bypass the mountain as they go between Mount Kongō to the north and Mount Jinpuku to the southwest. The summit is accessible via multiple routes from all sides of the mountain, and most hikes take about 90 minutes.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Mount Naka Katsuragi is a 937.7 m (though the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan shows 937.6 meters, most other sources show 937.7) mountain located within Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park, about 3 km almost directly south of Mount Kongō. Despite being very close to Mount Kongō, and being on the Diamond Trail, there are fewer serious mountain climbers.</p><br>
<h3>Environs</h3><br>
<p>On the Osaka side, extensive reforestation efforts of Japanese cedar and bamboo grass (Sasa veitchii) have taken place, but they have produced mixed results.</p><br>
<p>On the approach to the summit on the Gojō side, various shrubs and large fields of Sasa veitchii grow everywhere due to the lack of tall trees blocking out the sunlight. In the middle of all the sasa fields is a class 3 triangulation station (the name of the station is Kitayama).</p><br>
<h2>Access and amenities</h2><br>
<p>The trails on the mountain generally rise in elevation fairly slowly, so the mountain is popular with recreational hikers. About 100 m northeast of Mount Naka Katsuragi on the Diamond Trail is Kuruno Pass (elevation 890 m), and while the vertical distance is only about 60 m, the ascent is extremely steep and a difficult climb for those with little mountaineering experience.</p><br>
<p>The peak is just off the Diamond Trail, a 50 km hiking trail centered on Mount Kongō. Even though it has many hikers traversing by its peak, most bypass Mount Naka Katsuragi on the way to Mount Jinpuku and Kimi Pass after ascending to the base of Mount Kongō via the Mount Kongo Ropeway.</p><br>
<p>There are two routes from Gojō, each taking about 90 minutes: one via Kuruno Pass from Owa-chō, and a route from Kuruno-chō which is shorter in distance but rises more steeply.</p><br>
<p>Cell service is available at the summit. The closest toilet facilities are north on the Diamond Trail about 35 minutes, halfway to Mount Kongō at Fukumi Pass.</p><br>
<p>The Agat Invasion Beach is a historic site in the village of Agat, Guam. The beaches of Agat were one of the landing sites of American forces in the 1944 Battle of Guam, in which the island was retaken from occupying Japanese forces. The designated historic site includes the beaches and inland areas extending between Bangi Point and Togcha Beach. Surviving remnants of the Japanese defenses on this stretch of coast include trenches and rifle pits located a short way inland, and a fortified bunker and 40mm gun emplacements at Ga&#39;an Point. Remnants of pillboxes that had lined the beach also survive, with one at Gangi Point in relatively good condition.</p><br>
<p>The beaches and fortifications were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Portions of them are part of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park.</p><br>
<p>The Capt. Joel Whitney House is a historic house at 8 Pleasant Street in Phillips, Maine. Built in 1829 for a prominent early settler and businessman, it is one of the oldest houses in the small inland community, and probably the only two-story building of that age. It is now owned by the Phillips Historical Society, which houses museum displays in the rear sections. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Whitney House is set at the southeast corner of Pleasant and Sawyer Streets, opposite Sawyer Street from the Union Church. The house is a rambling structure, with a 2-1/2 story side-gable main block, a long single-story ell extending to the rear, which joins to a square two-story carriage house with a cupola-topped hip roof. The main facade is five bays wide, with a central entrance flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a wooden fan set in an elaborate entablature in the Federal style. The rear ell was built in two stages, the first being integral to the house construction and the second added later. The carriage house has large sliding doors on two sides, with a large hay portal over the southern entrance. The interior of the main house has retained much of its original Federal period woodwork and hardware; the rear sections have been adapted for use as display, meeting, and library spaces by the historical society.</p><br>
<p>The town of Phillips was incorporated in 1812. Captain Joel Whitney arrived with his family sometime between 1806 and 1815, bought 160 acre of land, and soon became a man of local prominence. Lands he owned became part of Phillips village, he operated a saw mill and potash factory, and he served as an early postmaster. He donated the land for the adjacent Union Church, helped finance its construction, and donated the bell in its tower. This house was built for Whitney in 1829 by Jesse Ladd, a local housewright, some of whose other houses have survived. This is the only known two-story house of the period to survive in Phillips—all the others are 1-1/2 story Capes.</p><br>
<p>The US Post Office-Bar Harbor Main is a historic post office building at 55 Cottage Street in Bar Harbor, Maine. This handsome granite Classical Revival building was one of twelve post offices built in 1909, and is reflective of the government&#39;s trend at that time to use classical architecture as a way to express democratic ideals and institutions. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Bar Harbor Post Office stands on the north side of Cottage Street, just west of its junction with Federal Street and on the fringe of the main villages central business district. It is a substantial single-story structure, built out of Maine granite. Its main facade faces south, and is five bays wide, with banded pilasters, topped by medallions, separating the bays. The outer four bays have paired sash windows topped by keystones. The main entrance is in the central bay, surrounded by a stonework arch and topped by a triangular pediment. The building has a strong cornice line, topped by a parapet. Behind the parapet is a low-pitch hip roof pierced by three vaulted-arch dormers. The buildings public lobby space is richly decorated with terrazzo marble flooring, marble wainscoting, and heavy woodwork surrounds for the interior doors and service windows. The ceiling has ornamental plaster decoration.</p><br>
<p>Bar Harbors post office was designed in 1908 by James Knox Taylor, the supervising architect of the United States Department of the Treasury, and was completed in 1909. Its construction was authorized by Tarsney Act and the Omnibus Building Act of 1902, and its individualized design was reflective of the governments return to the use of Classical styling as an expression of democratic ideals and institutions. The building is located in an area that was hard hit by Bar Harbor&#39;s devastating 1947 fire.</p><br>
<p>Praia dos Pescadores or the Fishermans Beach is a blue flag beach on the Atlantic south coast of the Algarve, in the district of Bairro dos Pescadores , Albufeira which is within the Municipality of Albufeira, Portugal. The beach is one of the two beaches which front the town of Albufeira with Praia do Túnel at the western end and Praia dos Pescadores lying to the eastern end of the towns seafront. The town and its beaches are located west 23.9 mi by road of the regions capital of Faro.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>In the days before Albufeira had a harbour and mariner the Praia dos Pescadores was where all the local fishermen</p><br>
<p>operated from and the beach scene would have been very different to the site you see today. Then the beach would have been full of brightly painted fishing boats pulled up on this beach when not at sea and much of the tourist activities took place on the Praia do Túnel. Today the Praia dos Pescadores is now used for tourism and is a very busy beach especially in the summer season.</p><br>
<p>The beach is 225 m in length and is 106 m wide at low tide. The beach is divided by a protruding cliff from Praia do Túnel at the western end of the seafront. To the beaches eastern boundary is the Praia do Inatel and it is divided from that beach by a concrete pier which covers the outflow of the Ribeira de Albufeira (Albufeira River). There are also cliffs at the eastern end and to the back of the beach there is an amphitheatre of white houses of the district of Bairro dos Pescadores. The beach can also be accessed by an outdoor foot escalator from the Pau da Bandeira bluff located south of Bairro dos Pescadores down to the beach and Albufeira old town.</p><br>
<h2>Beach facilities</h2><br>
<p>Praia dos Pescadores is an easily accessed beach with its large hard surface square at beach level. There are two car park&#39;s near-by, one of which, is at beach level, a short distance along the Avenida 25 de Abril within the old town. The second car park is at the top of the cliffs at Bairro dos Pescadores and is accessed via the outdoor escalator. To the back of the western end of the beach there a variety of restaurants many of which specialise in the local fish and seafood. The beach has several licensed concessions with opportunities to hire parasols and sun loungers. There are also many organised beach and water sport concessions from volleyball to boat trips and Parasailing. The beach also has toilet and shower facilities. During the summer months the beach is patrolled by lifeguards.</p><br>
<h2>New Year Celebrations on the beach</h2><br>
<p>In recent years the beach has been the focal point for the new year celebrations in the town. A temporary concert stage is erected on the Largo 25 de Abril and concerts are held to celebrate the new year. In the past the celebration has seen international bands appearing such as British reggae/pop band UB40 in 2009. The celebrations cumulate with a firework display held just of the beach on boats and pontoons just of the shoreline.</p><br>

<p>The Susan S. and Edward J. Cutler House is a historic house at 12 Woodbine Street in Providence, Rhode Island. It is an L-shaped 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a gabled roof and a single-story porch and vestibule in the crook of the L. The front facade has a rectangular projecting bay, with panels below the windows, and a bracketed hip roof. The front and side gables both feature Stick style decorative woodwork. The entry porch roof is bracketed, matching the front bay, and has a jigsawn balustrade. The interior features late Victorian woodwork, plasterwork and original hardware. The house was built in 1880, probably from plans in a published pattern book, and was the first to be built in a relatively new subdivision on Providence&#39;s north side. It is a well-preserved example of a "picturesque cottage", a style popularized by a number of 19th-century architects.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.</p><br>
<p>Reservoir 2 is a man-made reservoir located in the northern portion of the city of New Rochelle along the New Rochelle - Eastchester in Westchester County, New York. Constructed in 1892, the reservoir is impounded by the "Reservoir 2 dam" on the Hutchinson River. The dam is masonry and of earthen construction, with a height of 25 feet and a length of 550 feet. It has a water area of about 18.3 acres and a capacity of about 37,000,000 gallons. Maximum discharge is 800 cubic feet per second. The reservoir is owned by the City Of New Rochelle.</p><br>
<p>Reservoir 2 lies approximately.1 miles south of Reservoir 1, Lake Innisfree. The water from this reservoir, and from Reservoir 3, was originally pumped at a pumping station into the mains of the high service system to serve the northern portions of New Rochelle.</p><br>
<p>Reservoir 3 is a man-made reservoir located in the northern portion of the city of New Rochelle along the New Rochelle - Eastchester in Westchester County, New York. Constructed in 1908, the reservoir is impounded by the New Rochelle "Reservoir 3 dam" on the Hutchinson River. The dam is of earthen construction, with a height of 30 feet and a length of 450 feet. It has an area of about 30 acres, and a capacity of about 128,000,000 gallons. Maximum discharge is 1815 cubic feet per second. Its capacity is 498 acre feet. Normal storage is 220 acre feet. It drains an area of 2.85 square miles. The reservoir is currently owned by the Westchester County Dept Of Parks and Recreation.</p><br>
<p>This reservoir serves as a storage reservoir for the high-level system, with the overflow from it passing directly to Reservoir 2. The water from this reservoir, and from Reservoir 2, was originally pumped at a pumping station into the mains of the high service system to serve the northern portions of New Rochelle.</p><br>
<p>The upper end of the reservoir is swampy at the point where the Hutchinson River enters. Just above the upper end of the reservoir and on the east side there is a small feeder which flows into the main river and has its headwaters near the parkway 500 or 600 feet to the east of the main river. About one-half of a mile above the upper end of the reservoir the Hutchinson River Parkway crosses the river between reservoirs 1 and 3.</p><br>
<p>Mount Minami Katsuragi is the tallest mountain in the Izumi Mountains within the Kongō Range, straddling the border between Osaka and Wakayama Prefectures in Japan. Its peak elevation is 922 m.</p><br>
<h2>Location and naming</h2><br>
<p>Mount Minami Katsuragi is a remote mountain located on the prefectural border between Kawachinagano, Osaka and Hashimoto, Wakayama, Japan. With a peak elevation of 922 m, it is the highest peak in the Izumi Mountains, a group of mountains part of the larger Kongō Range. It is one of the mountains listed as one of the Osaka 50 Mountains, and is the highest peak in Wakayama Prefecture.</p><br>
<h3>Environs</h3><br>
<p>There are not a lot of extreme mountain climbers ascending this peak, so Mount Minami Katsuragi is generally quiet, with few climbers. The sides of the mountain are covered in Japanese cedar and Sasa veitchii, or bamboo grass.</p><br>
<h2>Access and amenities</h2><br>
<p>The summit has a number of benches and chairs from which to view the scenery, including stands of Japanese cedar which surround the overlook.</p><br>
<p>There are a number of trails leading up the mountain. The most common routes are listed below:</p><br>
<p>The first starts northwest of the mountain at Takihata Dam, follows the Diamond Trail east to the Mount Iwawaki trailhead, follows the Sengoku Valley Forest Road to the Forest Trail Fork. This leads to the Nozoki Flats, from where you can go up to the summit.</p><br>
<p>Starting to the east at Kimi Pass, go west on the Diamond Trail to the Mount Minami Katsuragi Fork, which will take you up to the top.</p><br>
<p>Within Iwawaki Forest is Iwawaki Temple. The trail from there leads you toward Mount Iwawaki. About 10 minutes before reaching Mount Iwawaki, turn off at East Summit and follow the Mount Minami Katsuragi Fork to the summit.</p><br>
<p>Beginning the hike at Zaō Pass, follow the signs on the trail until you reach the summit. This route is much longer than most others as it zigzags a lot while going up the mountain. This route is also the most rugged, steep, strenuous, and dangerous.</p><br>
<p>The Amos G. Winter House is a historic house on Winters Hill in Kingfield, Maine. Built in the mid-1890s, it is a particularly elegant example of Colonial Revival architecture in a remote inland community. The house was designed by Francis and Freelan Stanley, multi-talented twins best known for development of the Stanley Steamer, and the houses original heating system was designed around a railroad engine boiler. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Winter House is set on a hill north of the small village center of Kingfield and just south of the West Branch Carrabasset River. The hill affords fine views of the village and the Western Maine Mountains. It is a roughly square wood-frame structure, with a hip roof and a stone foundation. Its front facade is symmetrical, with rounded two-story bays flanking the center entrance, which is sheltered by a portico supported by groups of fluted columns, with a dentillated cornice beneath its hip roof. The entrance itself is flanked by sidelight windows and topped by a half-oval fanlight window, with pilasters matching the columns where the portico joins the wall. The rounded bays have curved three-part windows, with narrow sashes flanking large picture windows. Three hip-roof dormers pierce the front roof line. The main block of the house is flanked on either side by lower wings. The interior has retained much of its original decorative work despite a variety of adaptive reuses of the building over time.</p><br>
<p>The house was built for Amos G. Winter, a local grain merchant and owner of a general store. Winter was friends with the Stanley twins, who were also Kingfield natives. Among the innovations the Stanleys put in the building were a steam-driven heating system whose centerpiece was a railroad engine boiler. A steam-driven elevator was planned but not installed. The house was occupied by the Winters until 1950, and was then adapted for use first as a doctor&#39;s office and clinic, and then as a restaurant and inn. It has since been converted to multiunit residential use.</p><br>
<p>The Ridge House is a historic house at 230 West Center street in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is owned by the Washington County Historical Society, and is open for tours by appointment.</p><br>
<p>At the core of this two-story clapboarded house is a log dog trot structure, built c. 1835 and occupied by one of Fayetteville&#39;s first doctors. That original structure, still visible in parts of the interior, was repeatedly extended and enlarged to achieve its present appearance as a five-bay house with a projecting central front porch. A 19th-century leanto extends the building to the rear, giving it the profile of a classic New England saltbox, a house type rarely seen in Arkansas. The house was purchased in 1840 by the widow of John Ridge, the Cherokee leader who was assassinated after signing a treaty leading to the Cherokee removal.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.</p><br>
<p>Fjällsätern is a minor mountain in southern Uddevalla, Sweden. Its summit reaches 105.9 m above sea level according to one 1950 estimate , making it the areas second highest. There the local politician and publicist Ture Malmgren  began building his grand Tureborg Castle, today a ruin, in 1899. Along its slopes Malmgren constructed several other structures, among them the likewise faux-medieval summer residence Fjällhyddan, and his own would-be tomb. The area was once completely barren, but Malmgren – who was engaged in the tree-planting movement of that time – promised his wife Hilma that she would one day be able to walk beneath trees on Fjällsätern, and set about planting the thick forest of today. A nature reserve named after him, Ture Valleys, is situated on the mountains eastern side.</p><br>
<p>During the Second World War, Fjällsätern was used by the Swedish Armed Forces for the towns air defence, as a lookout post. When Tureborg Castle burned down in 1950, the height of the mountain made it difficult for the firemen to reach the fire. No historical remains pre-dating Ture Malmgrens use of the area are known on Fjällsätern, but several Stone Age sites sit by its foot, and the "-säter" suffix often indicates the area was historically used for forest-based livestock grazing.</p><br>
<p>Tureholm is a small and uninhabited artificial river island in Bäveån, which runs through the city of Uddevalla in Bohuslän, Sweden. It was created in the late 1800s or early 1900s by the local politician and publicist Ture Malmgren , close to his residence Villa Elfkullen. According to his newspaper Bohusläningen , the process of land reclamation took place because Malmgren enjoyed water, and wanted to be closer to the river. According to another author , it partially functioned as a wave breaker, preventing the ice of the late winters from pulling the nearby bridge with it. A small bridge is said to have formerly led from the mainland to its now overgrown embankments. The islet was named in reference to Malmgren by his friends. Other places named for him include the ruined Tureborg Castle and the nature reserve Ture Valleys.</p><br>

<p>As Psakoudia is a part of Ormylia most of its residents come from there, who own the olive groves in the north and are involved in olive farming for green table olives and olive oil. However, the principal occupation of the residents is tourist services in the summer. The population is increased in the summer months from June to August by many vacationers, Greeks and foreigners, who come to enjoy the Blue Flag awarded beach with its clear and clean sea.</p><br>
<p>On the beach there are many hotels and other accommodations and a big summer resort, taverns, bars, and supermarkets on the motorway.</p><br>

<p>The Kongō Range is a mountain range on the borders of Nara and Osaka Prefectures on the island of Honshū in the southwest of central Japan. The range separates the Osaka Plain and the Nara Basin, and forms a natural place for the boundary between the prefectures. The primary mountain in the range is Mount Kongō, and is contained within the Kongō-Ikoma-Kisen Quasi-National Park.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Kongō Range is about 24 km long, from the Yamato River in the north to the Kino River in the south. East to West, it averages about 5 km wide. The mountains in the range are from 273.6 m to 1,125 m in elevation. At Chihaya Pass, the ridgeline turns west and the Izumi Mountains begin at that point. They stretch along the border between Osaka and Wakayama Prefectures.</p><br>

<p>The Walpersberg is a sandstone mesa on the west bank of the Saale near Kahla in Thuringia, Germany, formed around 60 million years ago. It is notable for formerly housing the REIMAHG-A aircraft factory, an underground facility for the production and assembly of the Messerschmitt Me 262 fighter jet during World War II.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<h3>Early history</h3><br>
<p>The Walpersberg was referred to until the 15th century as Walpurgis Mountain. There is some evidence of ancient settlements in the surrounding Saale Valley, dating from the Middle Palaeolithic period.</p><br>
<p>Since the Middle Ages, three quarries on the Walpersberg have provided sandstone for local communities, often used as foundation material for houses. Evidence of these quarries can still be seen today. On the southern slope of the Walpersberg, buildings and artificial terraces were built for growing grapes for the purposes of wine production, although production declined in the 17th century.</p><br>
<p>A trade route ran over the mountain, known as "Green Street". From the 18th century the route became known as the "Gothic Street", due to the fact that it was a connection road to the Castle Friedensstein in Gotha.</p><br>
<p>By the late 19th century there was a thriving porcelain industry in nearby Kahla, and sand containing kaolin (a constituent material of porcelain) was found at the Walpersberg. Excavation began in 1897 by Kahlaer Porzellanwerke AG, creating a tunnel system extending 20 km.</p><br>
<h3>Use during World War II</h3><br>
<p>In 1944, a construction project was commenced by Nazi Germany to convert the former sand mines at the Walpersberg to a bomb-proof underground factory for the production of the Messerschmitt Me 262. To achieve this, the existing tunnel system was extended to 30 km by the use of over 12,000 forced labourers from Italy and Eastern Europe, and a further 3,000 skilled workers. Conversion of the former sand mines into the aircraft factory led to construction of a runway at the top of the Walpersberg, with the first aircraft taking off on 21 February 1945. Eventually only around 20 or 30 completed aircraft left the facility prior to the end of the war.</p><br>
<h3>Post-war use</h3><br>
<p>Following destruction of much of the structure by the Soviets, the remaining galleries under the Walpersberg were used as storage space for a fruit and vegetable warehouse during the 1950s. Later, from the 1960s, a part of the Walpersberg mine system was used by VEB Geological Research West for the storage of core samples.</p><br>
<p>From 1974 until 1989, the Walpersberg was part of East Germany&#39;s Department of Defence storage complex KL-22, with ammunition, weapons, and other military supplies being stored there. The Bundeswehr later used the property until 1997, at which point high operating costs necessitated closure of the facility.</p><br>
<p>Every year, around the 8th May, ceremonies take place in the communities surrounding the Walpersberg to commemorate the 2,000 forced labourers who died at the Walpersberg. It is a tradition that former forced labourers of REIMAHG from abroad attend these ceremonies.</p><br>
<p>Peryn  is a peninsula near Veliky Novgorod , noted for its medieval pagan shrine complex, and for its later well-preserved monastery.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The Peryn peninsula is at the confluence of Lake Ilmen and the River Volhov, 6 km south of the city of Veliky Novgorod. In the Dark Ages, the city was developed not far from Peryn, at Ruerikovo Gorodische also known as Holmgård, but its business and social activities were later moved to form today&#39;s city centre. The area south of Novgorod, including Peryn, is therefore considered part of the historic surroundings of Veliky Novgorod.</p><br>
<p>Historically, Peryn was an islet formed by the River Volkhov and two small rivers called Rakomka and Prost. It could only be reached by boat. The conditions changed significantly after a dam was constructed in the 1960s to provide access for vehicles. After the 1960s Peryn looked like a peninsula but now it looks more like a hill which only becomes a peninsula when floods arrive in the spring.</p><br>
<h2>Pagan history</h2><br>
<h3>The cult of Perun in Peryn and in Novgorod</h3><br>
<p>Novgorod was a centre of Slavic paganism in the Dark Ages. Accordingly, the Peryn island appears to have played a role similar to that of the Vatican Hill in the sense of its functions in the medieval Novgrorod and its later history. The name "Peryn" is related to the Slavic god Perun, whose shrine was there in the 10th century. The results of archaeological excavations under the guidance of Valentin Sedov described in his survey of Peryn, suggest that Peryn was a sacred place from ancient times. It is likely that the area has seen several pagan shrines, replacing one with another over time. The best known is the heathen shrine, established there in 980. Early Slavs used to set up anthropomorphic statues of wood, picturing their gods to serve the cult, and in 980 in Peryn it was carried out this way:</p><br>
<p>The Perun cult can be considered an aspect of Slavic mythology combining Greek and Scandinavian mythology with authentic Slavic features. Parallels can therefore be seen between Perun, Jupiter, Zeus, and Thor. Like the well-known deities, Perun was the head of a pantheon. He was a thunder god too, who overthrew his enemy Veles down under the roots of the World Oak. Adam Olearius, who visited Peryn in 1654, describes the cult of Perun in Peryn as follows:</p><br>
<p>As paganism implies many deities, Perun was not the only god in the heathen pantheon of Novgorod. Volos, whose shrine was presumably located on the site of the Church of St. Vlasi, was another deity worshipped in the city. who excluded Volos from his pagan pantheon. The first Christians erected the Church of the Transfiguration in Novgorod, but the government in Kiev was indifferent towards their religion, until Vladimir the Great was baptized in 988. By contrast to the folk cults of Volos and Jesus, the cult of Perun was probably seen as the royal (official) cult, arranged on Peryn Island close to the royal residence on the Holmgård Hill.</p><br>
<p>When the Russian state was Christianized in 989, the heathen religion was subjected to persecution. The citizens of Novgorod first tried to protect their deities, reportedly saying: "We would rather die than allow our gods to be outraged". The Novgorodians ravaged and plundered the house of Dobrynya, who was appointed to Christianize Novgorod, and beat up his wife. However, Dobrynya with the help of Putyata the warlord stifled the riot and completed his Christianization by force. Subsequently, the Peryn shrine, being the main spiritual complex in the second most important city in the Russian state, was ravaged and destroyed. No doubt, the process of ravaging was ritualized in Peryn, demonstrating that the new religion had overthrown its predecessor. According to the chronicle, it happened this way in Peryn:</p><br>
<p>The Christianization and ravaging of the shrines was a great tragedy for the people. They wept and cried out for mercy with their gods, and Dobrynya reportedly mocked them in response: "What, madmen? Are you mourning those who are not able to protect themselves ? What benefits do you expect from them?". Some people, who did not will to betray their deities, started to pretend they have already been baptized. In response, Dobrynya ordered to check crosses and “not to believe and to baptize” those who wear no cross.</p><br>
<p>Whatever it was, the old religion along with the cult of Perun were not easy to oust from the social mind of the city. It was displaced at the level of social underself, rising in Novgorodian fables, sagas, oral tales and traditions. One of the legends, about the mace of Perun, is fixed in the Novgorod Fourth Chronicle.</p><br>
<p>The legend about the mace of Perun, thrown down on the Great Bridge, was seminal and linked with the Novgorodian tradition of arranging wrestling matches between the citizens of different districts of the medieval city. Interestingly, the significant attribute of the wrestling battles were maces (a symbol of Perun): a sidenote in the Book of Royal Degrees tells us that the maces with tin pips for use in the wrestling matches were kept inside the Church of Boris and Gleb, and Nikon the Metropolitan burned them down in 1652, stopping “that devilish trizna ”. The tradition is described by Sigismund von Herberstein, who visited Novogorod in 1517 and 1526.</p><br>
<p>Novgorodian society has carefully guarded its memories of Perun and Peryn throughout the centuries. The Saga of Sloven and Rus, created in 1634, contains one more legend on the matter; the excerpt from the Saga below also describes certain Slavic heathen traditions and rituals. Two centuries later, in 1859, the Russian writer Pavel Yakushkin, when he was near Novgorod, wrote down an oral legend about Perun the serpent and Peryn, told to him by a Novgorodian fisherman. In fact, the oral legend is cognate with the plot of the Saga of Sloven and Rus. Even at the turn of the 20th century there was a tradition to drop a coin in the river Volhov while passing Peryn by boat.</p><br>
<p>As frequently occurs after a Christianization, people reconcile the mental conflict in their minds after changing their religion, substituting heathen gods with Christian saints,making it easier for them to virtually adhere to the old cult, traditions, symbolism and values without betraying the Christian religion. In the case of Novgorod, the imago of Perun was substituted with the figures of God the Father and Elias the Prophet. In the first case it is plays the role of Perun with the head of a pantheon; in the second, Elias the Prophet carries the attributes of Perun: he moves across the sky on a chariot, thundering and flashing (lightning) like Perun.</p><br>
<p>Simultaneously, as explicitly shows The Saga of Sloven and Rus (1634) cited above, the imago of Perun incorporates the peculiarities of the Devil, embodying a character who had been overthrown by the Christian religion; the one defeated in the name of the God and displaced in the underworld, who is opposed to the God, ruling his own (pagan) world.</p><br>
<p>Thus, the image of Perun in Novgorod is a complicated social phenomenon.</p><br>
<h3>The heathen shrine</h3><br>
<p>In 1951 an archaeological expedition under the direction of Valentin Sedov revealed the remains of a pagan temple complex. According to the report by Sedov, the shrine was located in the centre of Peryn Islet, on the historical top of the Peryn Hill. though some parts were spoiled significantly by diggings many centuries ago. The shrine is circular-shaped with a diameter of 21 m, encompassing a shallow ditch a metre in depth. The bulges are aligned to the points of the compass. The circles centre has a hole of 65 cm in width. Sedov in his survey suggests that the shrines shape reflects the symbols of Perun.</p><br>
<p>The excavations disproved the opinion that the Peryn Chapel was erected right on the site of the pagan shrine according to the Old Russian tradition of erecting churches on the places of pagan shrines. The results of Sedov are consistent with those of Artemi Artsihovsky, who was looking for the remains of the shrine in the chapel&#39;s basement two years earlier (in 1948), and had not found them.</p><br>
<p>The excavations confirmed the chronicle data that bonfires had burnt around the idol. Heaps of charcoal and/or evidence of fire were revealed in every bulge. Sedov in his survey ties that fact with what is known about the cult of Perun, and suggests that the bulges in the ditch were for ritual bonfires. The eastern bulge is remarkable with an especially large heap of charcoal, indicating that an eternal flame might have been located there. The remaining pyres are likely to have been in use from time to time (probably for ceremonies). The samples of charcoal analyzed were from oak wood, Perun’s tree. The excavations showed that the bonfires and the ditch were buried when the shrine was ravaged in ancient times.</p><br>
<p>The hole in the centre of the circle is interpreted by Sedov as a groove for the wooden idol. He found pieces of putrefied wood inside the hole and argues in his report: the data from the Novgorod First Chronicle are confirmed, and the idol was hacked down during the process of destruction, leaving the base of the idol inside the hole. Sedov in his survey draws a more complete and detailed picture of the destruction. Based on the results of the excavations he claims: while one group of people was engaged in chopping the wooden idol down, another was covering the bonfires with soil and destroying the altar. Then they all together buried the ditch.</p><br>
<p>In 1952 Sedov continued the excavations and discovered two circle-shaped constructions of a smaller size to the sides of the main shrine. Sedov asserts the constructions to be arranged there "not later than in the 9th century"., meaning that the main shrine seems to replace some more ancient ones. Russian historian Rybakov in his survey presumes a more ancient cult existed in Peryn before the cult of Perun. Sedov found other constructions of later periods around the shrine, including graves and dugouts.</p><br>
<p>There are other interpretations of Sedov&#39;s findings. Russian historians Vladimir Konetsky and Lev Klein argue that Sedov had found a burial mound, not a shrine. They have not submitted any crucial counterarguments, though; they rather suggest an alternative version to interpret the findings. Nevertheless, graves discovered by Sedov within the construction are from later periods, Sedov took part in the excavation himself, his results are fully consistent with all the ancient written sources and appear to be justified. He asserts in his survey: “undoubtedly, these are the remains of the Perun’s shrine”. On the other hand, the debates are about whether Sedov discovered the very shrine, but the fact that a shrine to Perun was located in Peryn is widely accepted and causes no doubt.</p><br>
<h2>After Christianization</h2><br>
<h3>The Christian monastery</h3><br>
<p>The monastery was probably founded in Peryn soon after the pagan shrine was destroyed, when a wooden church was reportedly erected there. The remains of the church were presumably discovered by Vasili Sedov while excavating the small northern shrine in 1952. The wooden church had approximately the same dimensions as the present church of stone. which existed until contemporary times. Nevertheless, the first chronicled reference to the monastery was not made until 1386. The chronicle tells us that the monastery was one of 24 cloisters burned down by the Novgorodians so that they would not be left to the followers of Dmitry Donskoy, the great duke of Moscovy who acted against Novgorod in 1386.</p><br>
<p>The wooden Church of the Trinity was the second church to be built on Peryn Islet. It was accompanied by a wooden refectory built in 1528. All the wooden buildings were destroyed during the Swedish occupation of Novgorod in 1611 – 1617: the monastery was ravaged. The Novgorod inventory for 1617 reported:</p><br>
<p>To sustain and support the monastery after it had been ravaged in 1611 - 1617, it was merged with the Yuriev Monastery (the main monastery of Novgorod). According to one source, this occurred in 1634, according to another, in 1671. After the secularization undertaken by Catherine the Great in 1764, the monastery was abolished, its assets were transferred to Yuriev Monastery, and all the buildings except the Church of the Nativity were disassembled.</p><br>
<p>The monastery was revived in the 18th century thanks to Anna Orlova-Chesmenskaya and Photios the Archimandrite. Photios the Archimandrite, when he was a hieromonk in Saint Petersburg, dismissed the popular idea of the times emphasizing direct communication between a man and the God outside the influence of the church. As a result, he was removed from Saint Petersburg and sent to Novgorod in 1821. In 1822 he was appointed head of the Yuriev Monastery. He was no longer considered an oppositionist when the new emperor, a deeply religious person, came to the throne in 1825.</p><br>
<p>He undertook extensive repairs of the Yuriev Monastery and on Peryn Islet, relying on financial support from Duchess Anna Orlova-Chesmenskaya, his rich god daughter. At first, Photios asked that Peryn Islet should be reutnred to Yuriev Monastery. After this had been agreed in 1824, he arranged for major repairs to the Peryn Chapel: the walls were repaired thoroughly inside and out; the church’s interior was redecorated; an outbuilding was built up from the west side of the church; the floor and the dome were replaced.</p><br>
<p>The church was sanctified once again in 1828. The monastery was extended in the 1830s and in the beginning of the 1940s: the red-bricked cells for the monks were erected along with two small buildings for an abbot and an archimandrite in the same architectural style. The monastery was provided with two utility buildings and surrounded by a brick wall; the complex was completed with a bell tower housing six bells. The buildings (apart from the bell tower and the fence) still form part of the monastery complex today.</p><br>
<p>Finally, Photios succeeded in giving the monastery the status of skete in 1828 - a monastery with severe regulations, isolated from the outer world. The monks had many prescriptions, one of them being that women were only allowed to visit the monastery once a year on September 8, the day of the Nativity of Our Lady.</p><br>
<p>After the 1917 October Revolution, the monastery was closed and revaged once again. A decree to abolish all the monasteries in the Novgorod governorate was issued by the new Regional Council in August 1919. Subsequently, the bell tower, the fence and the southern utility building were disassembled for bricks. The bricks were used to build a depository for ice in the monastery land. The church was used as a storehouse. The remaining buildings were transferred to a fishing enterprise. When Novgorod was occupied during World War II, the battle line came close to the monastery, but it was not badly harmed.</p><br>
<p>After the end of the war, the monastery was turned into a sanatorium. A dam was built in the 1960s to connect Peryn Islet with the landmass. That altered the water regime substantially, and the historical islet became a peninsula which only became an islet during the spring floods, and then into a hill. The monastery was transferred to the church in 1991. Now monastery at Peryn is referred to as Yuriev Monastery.</p><br>
<h3>The Church of the Nativity of Our Lady in Peryn</h3><br>
<p>The church adopted a traditional name for the first Novgorodian church, being named in honour of the Mother of God, who was believed to be a patron of Novgorod. Archaeologists assert that the church was erected in the first half of the 13th century, and the historian Leonid Krasnorechyev specifies the date as the year 1226, when the elections of an archimandrite for the church are known to have been held.</p><br>
<p>The church is remarkable for its small dimensions: it is 7.5 m and 9 m in width. Despite that, it looks surprisingly holistic and large from the inside: the attention of the visitor is drawn to the ceiling which looks very high. The columns in the church are not massive in contrast to other churches of the period. The church has three wide portals.</p><br>
<p>The chapel is notable with the cross at its dome: its design includes a crescent. That was typical for ancient churches in Russia built in the pre-Mongol period. That is called “The Grapevine Cross” and sybmolizes a vine. It has no ties with Islam and is based on the interpretation of the Gospel of John:</p><br>
<p>Daral Dand is an alpine scenic lake in the hill top of Bahrain region of Swat valley. The lake appears as giant amoeba like in shape and stretched over a huge area.</p><br>
<p>Near the lake, there is an ancient mosque where shepherds and visitors say their prayers and use as a resting place for night.</p><br>
<h2>Location & Physical features</h2><br>
<p>Daral Dand is situated in the western upper reaches of Bahrain, in the foothills of Spinsar Mountain and to the northeast of Saidgai Dand at an elevation of 3,505.2 m (11,500 ft). The lake is fed by melting glaciers of the surrounding mountains and gives rise to Daral Khwar which is the main left tributary of Swat River.</p><br>
<h2>Access</h2><br>
<p>Daral Lake is accessible only during the summer; during the winter, the trails which lead to the lake, are closed due to heavy snowfall. While in summer, it can be accessed from Bahrain in three to four hours of trekking on bare mountains, after which the trek descends down towards the East where Daral Lake is located. Alternatively, it can be approached from Gabina Jabba hill top, the most favoured trail. An unmetalled-cum-jeepable road ends at Gabina Jabba where the trekking journey begins. From here, continuous trekking for almost 4–5 hours leads to the lake.</p><br>
<p>Mantua Center School is a historic building located in the Mantua Center area of Mantua Township, Portage County, Ohio, United States. It was built in 1914 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 4, 2013. The building was listed as an example of early 20th century educational and Neoclassical architecture in rural Portage County and one of the few remaining buildings from that era still standing.</p><br>
<p>Until 2004, the building was in use as a school, known as Mantua Center Elementary School. It housed grades kindergarten through four as one of four elementary schools in the Crestwood Local School District. Previously, the building had served first as a grades 1–12 school for students in Mantua Township, known as the Mantua Township School, and after 1948 as a school for grades 1–7 following consolidation of the Mantua Township and Mantua Village school districts. It continued as a 1–7 building until the late 1950s when Crestwood Middle School opened. An addition with a multi-purpose gymnasium and stage was completed in 1964.</p><br>
<p>Following the conclusion of the 2003–04 school year in June, the building was closed and sold to the Mantua Township Trustees. It, along with three other elementary schools in the district, was replaced by two new consolidated elementary schools, one for grades K–2 and the other for grades 3–5. Since then, the newer portion of the building has functioned as a community center while the original building has limited use for office space by the township government.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>During the early days of public education in Ohio, schools were divided into several small districts centered on a one-room schoolhouse. In the late 19th century, a movement started to centralize these schools into a single building with students divided into grade levels. The first school district to centralize in Portage County was Ravenna City in 1859 followed by Kent nine years later. Many of the more rural township schools, however, did not start centralizing schools until the early 20th century. Mantua Township centralized schools in 1903, housing students in buildings in and around what is now the Mantua Center District.</p><br>
<p>The construction of the Mantua Center School was driven mainly by township residents&#39; desire for modern and safe educational facilities, to replace the wooden frame buildings that had previously been serving as schools. The deadly Collinwood school fire in 1908, which occurred nearby in what is now part of Cleveland and killed 172 students, and prevention of the spread of cholera were two of the primary reasons. The construction of the building also occurred during a period of time where other districts were opening new centralized buildings. Between 1913 and 1920, 21 new centralized schools were built in Portage County.</p><br>
<p>The new school building opened in October 1914 and students simply gathered their belongings in the previous buildings and carried them to the new school across the street one block north. The school became a social center for the community similar to other centralized schools. Initially it housed all grades (1–12) with high school classes occupying three classrooms and the remaining grades in four rooms. The school housed students in all grades until 1948, when the Mantua Village School District was merged with the township district to form the Mantua Local School District. Under the consolidated district, high school students (grades 8–12) attended the Mantua Village School while elementary students (grades 1–7) attended Mantua Center School. Two additional classrooms were added to the Mantua Center School by converting space in an adjacent building on the property. This arrangement continued even after Shalersville Township joined the district in 1952 to form the Mantua–Shalersville Local School District. Continued enrollment growth in the 1950s resulted in construction of a new high school in Mantua Village in 1956, at which point the district was renamed for the local phone exchange, Crestwood. A few years later, a new junior high school was built near the high school and Mantua Center School was used as an elementary school for grades K–4. An addition was built in 1964 that included a multi-purpose gymnasium and classrooms.</p><br>
<p>The K–4 setup continued until 2004 when two new consolidated elementary schools, Crestwood Primary for grades K–2 and Crestwood Intermediate for grades 3–5, were completed in Mantua Township just north of the high school and middle school campus. An evaluation of the district&#39;s buildings in the 1990s by the Ohio School Facilities Commission recommended replacing the four aging elementary schools, all of which had previously served as centralized schools, rather than spend millions of dollars to bring each one up to code. Voters approved the bond issue to build the new schools in the early 2000s. Mantua Center School was sold to the Mantua Township Trustees for $147,500. Since purchasing the building, the 1964 addition has been used for various community events and meetings while the Mantua Township trustees use some of the original 1914 building for offices.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture</h2><br>
<p>The original 1914 Mantua Center School is an example of Neoclassical architecture, prominent in the United States during the early 20th century. The building was designed by architect Peter T. Cahill, who was based in Cleveland at the time, and the general contractor was Loomis, Seymour, and Company. The original building cost $32,500 ($ in dollars) and had 12,000 ft&sup2; of space on three levels with seven classrooms on the top two floors and small gymnasium and cafeteria areas on the lowest levels. The building also contained indoor restrooms, located in the basement, which were unusual for rural buildings in the early 20th century.</p><br>
<p>Architect Peter Cahill was a graduate of nearby Hiram College in 1911 and had previously designed the school for neighboring Hiram Township, which opened in 1913. In March 1913, Cahill authored an article in The Ohio Architect, Engineer and Builder urging the state to develop building codes that would prohibit construction of school buildings using wood since wood was far more prone to damage from floods and fire. Cahill was a proponent of masonry construction and cement walls and had observed the extensive damage caused to buildings as a result of the Great Flood of 1913, which occurred in late March of that year, while the disastrous Collinwood school fire of 1908 was still a recent memory.</p><br>
<p>Cahill&#39;s choice for the design of Mantua Center School may have been influenced by the original facade of the Old Main building at Hiram College, which had been remodeled by the 1880s and has since been demolished. The classical designs of the nearby buildings that now constitute the Mantua Center District may have also been influences on his design, which includes elements of Georgian and Greek Revival architecture. The 1964 addition was built using a flat-roofed minimalist style prominent in educational architecture in the mid-20th century. The addition includes a multi-purpose gymnasium, kitchen, restrooms and storage.</p><br>
<h2>Historic listing</h2><br>
<p>The Mantua Center School was nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places under Criteria A and C. The building is significant in the area of Community Planning and Development in Criterion A as it is one of the early, and few remaining, examples in Portage County of a centralized rural school, from an era when most of the rural schools districts in the area and state transitioned from multiple school houses to central buildings. Between 1913 and 1920, 21 new centralized schools were built in the county, though only five of those schools are still standing and none are used for classes. Four of those buildings, including the Mantua Center School, have been re-purposed, one is abandoned, while the remaining buildings have since been demolished. The building was nominated under the Architecture area of Criterion C as an example of an early 20th century Neoclassical educational facility.</p><br>
<p>The New Portland Wire Bridge is a historic suspension bridge in New Portland, Maine. The bridge carries Wire Bridge Road across the Carrabassett River a short way north of the village center. Built in the mid-19th century, it is one of four 19th-century suspension bridges in the state. It is one lane wide, and has a weight limit of 3 tons. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The bridge is in a rural setting, crossing the river just upstream of the mouth of Lemon Stream. The bridge is 188 ft long and 12 ft wide, sufficient to carry a single lane of traffic. The bridge towers are 25 ft, and are set on abutments of large rough-quarried granite. The towers are covered in wooden shingles, and are constructed of 12 in beams. The main steel cables are about 4 in in diameter, and connected to the bridge decking by 204 steel girders. The cable ends are anchored by concrete and granite blocks with an estimated weight of 30 tons. The decking surface is wooden planks.</p><br>
<p>The construction history of the bridge is a matter of minor local controversy. One traditional account places its construction at 1840-42, under the auspices of Colonel F. B. Morse, who lived nearby and had been an engineer in the army. According to this account, Morse ordered the cables from Sheffield, England, and had them hauled overland from Hallowell by a large team of oxen. Local criticism of the work led the bridge to dubbed "Morse&#39;s Fool Bridge". The official town history of the bridge is more prosaic, stating that it was built in 1864-66 by David Eider and Captain Charles Clark. The bridge was lasted rehabilitated in 2009-10; its towers and cable are original.</p><br>
<p>The Guam Cable Station is where the United States territory of Guam was first connected via modern telecommunications to the rest of the world. Reduced to ruins by the fighting of World War II, the ruins of the establishment remain on the grounds of Naval Base Guam on the west side of the island. In 1901, the Commercial Pacific Cable Company offered to lay a cable between the Continental United States and Guam at no cost to the federal government. In 1903 the company began construction of a series of buildings near what was the small village of Sumay. Designed to be proof against typhoons, earthquakes, and other perils, the complex included the main cable station building, several buildings of living quarters, and a self-contained water supply system. The cable connecting Guam to Hawaii was completed in June 1903, marking the complete encirclement of the globe by communications cables. This station became a major communications hub, eventually also housing cables to China and the island of Yap, and becoming an early-warning center for typhoons. Operation of the cable was interrupted by the Japanese capture of Guam in 1941. It resumed with the liberation of Guam in 1944, but continued only until 1951, when the cable between Guam and Hawaii was broken. Since then the remains of the cable station have been succumbing to the elements. Its remains were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<p>The Swedish American Telephone Company Building is a historic structure in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. Built in the later 1890s, the factory differs from other industrial buildings of its day because of its ornate facade. It was home to medical supplier Betz & Co. , the Swedish American Telephone Company , and the Denoyer-Geppert Co. .</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Ravenswood Land Company purchased 194 acre along the Chicago & North Western tracks in Edgewater in 1868. At the time, the railroad had stops to the north at Rosehill Cemetery and to the south at Ravenswood Manor. In 1875, the railroad opened a stop at Summerdale, 100 ft west of this site. Plans were in place to develop a residential community there by 1890. The neighborhood became known as Andersenville by its early Norwegian settlers—later Swedish settlers changed the name to Andersonville, and the Summerdale name fell into disuse. The Swedish American Telephone Company Building was the first major industrial building in the Andersonville district of Edgewater. A sizable employer, the factory building spurred residential growth in the surrounding area. It was the first building of what would become an industrial corridor along the CNW tracks.</p><br>
<p>The factory building housed three significant companies in succession. Frank Betz was a former real estate developer who lost his fortune in the Panic of 1893, but quickly recovered as a manufacturer of bath cabinets. In 1899, he decided to expand his operations to include other supplies for hospitals and physicians. This required a larger manufacturing space, so he built a three-story building here; it was attached to two existing buildings in 1901, creating the large complex that stands today. By 1904, Betz & Co. had outgrown the Andersonville factory and moved to Hammond, Indiana.</p><br>
<p>When the patent on telephones expired in 1894, the Swedish American Telephone Company was one of the many small operations founded to supply the industry. Swedish American sold most of their products to the Chicago Telephone Co., a monopoly in the area. In 1902, the company was sold to Stromberg-Carlson, which itself was sold to Eastern Industrialist the next year. By 1905, Swedish American required a larger building to manufacture its products and moved into the recently-vacated Betz & Co. building.</p><br>
<p>The next tenet was the Denoyer-Geppert Company, who moved into the building in 1923. They were best known for their educational pull-down maps for classrooms. They also manufactured models of human features for medical schools and developed educational film strips. The company was purchased by Rand McNally in 1984. Shortly after they moved out, the building was recognized by the National Park Service with a listing on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<p>The Nanyō Kōhatsu Kabushiki Kaisha complex was the main support base of the Nanyō Kōhatsu Kabushiki Kaisha  on the island Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands. The NKKK was an economic development company established by the Empire of Japan to develop the territories of the South Pacific Mandate, which it oversaw between the First and Second World Wars. In the Northern Marianas, the company aggressively developed arable areas for sugar cane farming, importing workers from Japan, Okinawa, and Korea. Each of the three major islands  had major support facility. On Tinian, this area, now roughly where the island&#39;s largest community, San Jose is located on the south coast, consisted of an extensive development, most of which was destroyed during the Battle of Tinian in the Second World War. Of this large complex, only four buildings or structures remain, all of which have been listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places, as rare surviving examples of pre-war Japanese architecture on the islands.</p><br>
<h2>Administration building</h2><br>
<p>The remains of the NKKK Administration Building are on the west side of San Jose, consisting of an unpainted concrete frame whose wooden elements, including the roof, are long gone. The frame measures 9.8 m wide, 14.3 m long, and is about 4.5 m tall. The main entrance, to the east, is identifiable by a canopy with unique fascia detailing not found on other surviving NKKK buildings in the region. When listed on the National Register in 1981, the structure was being used for storage, and its concrete was deteriorating.</p><br>
<h2>Laboratory building</h2><br>
<p>This building is a two-story unpainted concrete structure, measuring about 5.9 x with a wood-framed metal roof. Its window openings have Japanese-style concrete canopies sheltering them. It was one of the few two-story NKKK buildings, and is the only of the company&#39;s known laboratory building to survive. When listed on the National Register in 1981, it was being used as a private residence.</p><br>
<h2>Ice storage building</h2><br>
<p>The ice storage building, the only surviving building of its type in the islands, is located just north of the House of Taga. It is a single-story unpainted concrete structure, 6 x and 3.7 m tall. It has a single entrance at the northwest corner, and another opening on the west side. The interior is divided into two spaces by a concrete wall, the larger space serving as the main storage area. The roof is flat tar pitch covered with concrete tiles. Two of the exterior walls have wainscoting that is a cement mortar mixed with small aggregate. The building suffered some war damage to the west wall and the interior dividing wall.</p><br>
<h2>Unknown utility building</h2><br>
<p>One of the NKKKs surviving buildings has an unknown purpose. It is a single-story unpainted concrete structure, 3.9 x and 4.5 m tall. The only openings are a door and window on the north facade. Both were originally sheltered by concrete canopies, but that over the window was destroyed in the war. The original roof was also destroyed; it was apparently a gently-sloping shed roof. The buildings form is distinctive among surviving NKKK buildings in the Marianas. It was listed on the National Register as a "Japanese Structure".</p><br>
<p>The William J. Murphy House is a historic house at 923 North 13th Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas. It is a rectangular 2-1/2 story brick structure, with basically symmetrical massing by asymmetric details. The main roofline is hipped toward the front facade, with a pair of similarly-sized projections on either side of a central raised hip-roof porch at the third level. The left projection has larger single windows at the first and second levels, and a small window recessed within a jerkin-headed gable pediment. The right projection has two narrower windows on the first and second levels, and a small hipped element projecting from the top of that sections hip roof. A single-story porch extends across the width, supported by paired columns, with an entablature decorated by garlands. The house, built about 1895, is one of Fort Smiths most sophisticated expressions of Classical Revival architecture. It was built by a local manufacturer of saddles and harnesses.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<p>The New Theatre is a historic theatre building at 9 North 10th Street in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The Beaux Arts building was built in 1911, and was supposedly modeled on the New Amsterdam Theatre in New York City. The building&#39;s facade features a rich variety of decoration, including terra cotta glazed tile, terra cotta brick work, and elaborate border cartouches. The theatre began as a performing arts venue, but was converted to nearly exclusive use as a film house in the 1940s. It was closed in the 1970s, and restoration efforts have been taking place sporadically since the 1990s.</p><br>
<p>The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is vacant.</p><br>

<p>Tomen yr Allt   was a Medieval motte and bailey defensive castle near Llanfyllin in Powys, Wales.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The site is over 40m in diameter, the central man-made earthwork mound (motte) is about 13m by 10m and nearly 10m high. There is a continuous stony, ditch, which is doubled on the north-east side, away from the natural slope of the hill. The bank is flattened where it joins fields on the south-east side and no bailey is apparent in that section. Most of the earthworks remain and the keep of the castle was probably timber, as CPAT (Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust) found a piece of daub and the remains of a burnt layer in 1978. The site is a Cadw scheduled monument.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Tomen yr Allt was the caput of the commote of Mechain Uwch Coed in the cantref of Mechain.</p><br>
<p>In 1160, when the Kingdom of Powys was divided, Mechain became part of the principality which later became known as Powys Wenwynwyn. By 1208 the region was controlled by Llywelyn the Great, after his death in 1241 his heir had to come to terms with Henry III of England, as a result Powys Wenwynwyn passed to Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn who was allied to Henry III. From 1255 Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, the grandson of Llywelyn the Great and the Prince of Gwynedd, began to expand his territory.</p><br>
<p>In May 1257, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd was reported to have put the "castle of Bodyddon" under siege (Tomen yr Allt is less than 1 km east of Bodyddon and overlooks it). The intention was likely to bring the lords of Mechain to submission, and by 1258 they were indeed allied to Llywelyn. Presumably Tomen yr Allt is the "castle of Bodyddon" to which the reports refer, which was destroyed in 1257.</p><br>
<p>The site overlooks Bodfach Hall approximately 1 km south-east in the hamlet of Bodfach near Llanfyllin. Tomen yr Allt and the wooded area around it, known as Coed yr Allt, is on land which belonged to the historical estate of the hall. The original building on the site of the hall may have been constructed to replace the castle.</p><br>
